But the D&D sets feel different, more organic, because they’re both Wizards of the Coast babies. The Forgotten Realms set was a history-making bestseller, proving we LOVE slinging spells with our favorite D&D characters. But here’s my take: we’ve done the heroic fantasy. It’s time for some horror.

Ravenloft isn't just Strahd's backyard (though, let's be real, he’s the main attraction 🧛‍♂️). This setting has been giving players nightmares since 1983! It’s a whole dimension of dread, the 'Domains of Dread,' each ruled by a tragic, monstrous Darklord who is both master and prisoner of their own personal hell. Think beyond Barovia!

• Falkovnia: A relentless zombie apocalypse. Imagine an army of decayed tokens!

• Lamordia: Frankenstein-esque body horror and mad science. Perfect for Artificer tribal?

• Tepest: Folk horror with creepy villages and ancient sacrifices.

There’s a domain for EVERY flavor of fear. This isn’t a niche pick, either. Curse of Strahd has been the most popular 5E adventure module for years, even a decade after its release. The fanbase is massive and passionate.

Now, why would this work so well in Magic? Because Wizards has already mastered horror in their own game! We’ve had multiple trips to the gothic world of Innistrad, the eerie fairy tale darkness of Shadowmoor, and even the modern haunted house vibes of Duskmourn.
